United Church of Christ
The United Church of Christ was formed in 1957 through the merger of the Congregational Christian Churches and the Evangelical and Reformed Church. It is one of the most theologically progressive mainline denominations, known for being the first to ordain an openly gay minister (1972) and for championing social justice causes. The UCC affirms local church autonomy and a 'still speaking' God who continues to reveal new truths.
